I think I got the same email Ann,not from your aunt of course but from a friend who likes to get the news out first about how bad somethings can be. I also replied back that we should read the books first before we say anything else about it.

I'm sorry, I didn't read any religious significance into those books. Yes, they are good V evil, same as most books, really.

I find it sad that someone (who, as you say) hasn't even read the books, can just categorise it - demonise it. I know, I know - but I think he chose the archaic spelling 'daemon' precisely to remove it from the religion arena.

Perhaps, Ann, your aunt and I would not see eye to eye.

I'm sorry, though, because the books are strongly humanitarian, though, as I say, classically Good V Evil.

Grrrr.

No no no apologies, Bara! I'm not reading this to see if I agree that it should be avoided. I'm reading it because several kids at the library have urged me to read it--it's one of their favorites--and because I'm curious to see what has got folks so stirred up. I have no problem with the author being athiest or anything else. I hope I judge a book by its literary merits, as far as I can do that, and so far this one looks worthy. But apparently I'm not the first to note that.

It looks likely that this book is unflattering to Christianity--or at least to the way it has sometimes been practiced. I have a few criticisms of our behavior over the last 2000 years, myself!

You know of course that the same was said about our dear friend Harry Potter. That it would teach the children to be witches and wizards.

The head of the Children's Ministry at our church had a article in the church newsletter telling parents not to let their children read Harry Potter series, I got a chance to ask her if she had read the books and of course she had not

Then I asked her how she could tell parents not to let their children read the books without knowing for sure what she was talking about, she just walked away from me ;D

Lucky for me stuff like that makes me want to read the book even faster ;D
