Okay, I am at the part where Pearl Harbor is just starting. The one thing I can say for sure is that I have gone through a whole range of emotions reading this book and have some serious questions. Will she ever get to find her daughter? Will she see her papa again? etc. etc.

;D I told you it was good. I love books that make you sit back and think about them long after you have read them. They just leave you feeling kind of....undone inside. Keep on reading, the ending is fab!

It was sad, but it was so amazing the inner strength she found to go through all that she did. She perservered through so much. I think I would have given up long before she did and in that she was an inspiration to me. The book was so rich in emotion and description. I just loved it for that. Another sad segment in the history of mankind though.... and it just goes to show how we take so much for granted in new technology, medicine and such. We have come such a long way in such a short period of time and at the same time I think mankind has degenerated in other areas because of it.

Hi Lynne Yes don't send it to me I'll pick it up personally. Molokai is a book I want to keep and read again this winter. I was really touched by this one. Filly you are so right. I was amazed at Rachels strength, and determination. I ached when her husband was killed. After everything she had been through that was just too much. I am so happy she met up with her daughter.

Okay, I finished it over vacation, and I loved it! It was so thought-provoking. On one hand, it was so cruel to exile the lepers to their own island prison, but on the other hand, they got to live relatively normal lives, without people staring and ostrasizing them. Come on, let's talk about the book!
I gave the book to my SIL, who lives on Oahu. I think she'll find it facinating since she lives there.

Haha, I haven't read this thread either, because I'm planning on going to the library tomorrow to pick it up.
Although...I just started Wicked...maybe I should wait before taking Moloka'i out...

Hey, Claire, our high school marching band's routine this year is set to Wicked. Did you read it and dig it?

Wicked as in Jilly Cooper?
Just finished Moloka'i - wow. The things you just don't KNOW. And it's so recent. Relatively speaking. I lost internet for a few days, but will be going on to track down the background to this.

No Bara, Wicked as in Gregory Maguire. And yes Lynne, I dig it! And (shame on me) I've never even watched the Wizard of Oz...only a few bits here and there...lol Next of course I'll read Son of a Witch...!

Ok, Moloka'i is one of those books that I will buy, after giving my copy back to my local library. I LOVED it. It is so moving, makes you think, too.
Bara did you ever read Snow Falling on Cedars? Nothing to do with leprosy, but with the plight of Japanese-Americans during and after WWII...very interesting. I agree, the things we don't know...isn't it GREAT?!!!
