I wanted to add the reason why so many people say S.A.F.E. T.R.I.P. when a horse is going to race. so here it is...
S afely out & home again A round the oval track F inding strength to persevere E merging from the Pack
T hrough the race protect them lord R eturn them to the barn I nstill in them our loving thoughts P rotect them from all harm

Thanks Terrie. I've always wondered exactly what that meant.

That's a great idea Fancyhorse. Keely is the one who told me a long time ago what those two words stood for. I just now found the paper when I was cleaning out my desk and wanted to make sure I didn't misplace them again.

Hey Goalie, thanks so much for posting this - I have been looking for it and what-do-ya-know - it's right here. I'm taking a metalsmithing course this semester and I have to make a hollow piece with a "symbolic" meaning. I have wanted to do something with Williams tail for a long time - I considered pottery but I didn't want to do anything that breaks (for that is a symbolic meaning alone). A couple weeks ago I found a picture of a stock bell that is hung from a horses neck - the description said, "Horse bells give....the security of knowing your stock are in camp and safe"...the description almost brought tears to my eyes. Anyway, I'm working on a bronze bell fashioned after the old bell I found the picture of (coincidentally it was a bell from KY, which is where William was born); from the clapper will hang his tail, and the bell will ring as his tail moves, reminding me that he's safe . I may work in SAFE TRIP somewhere into the design....I'm still working on that. I also wanted to incorperate the concept head, heart and hooves ~often that is what what is buried when they lay champion racehorses to rest. Of course he was a champion to me. Anyway....all of that to say thanks again....I couldn't find this anywhere on the internet!

Glad I could be of some help Tracerace. My thoughts were always the same on the pottery made from horses hair. I was afraid it would break on me too. I asked niaru to make some bracelets from my boys hair and they are beautiful. I like your idea on the bell.

I actually made a bracelet from horse hair for one of my friends! It was HARD, but it came out great and she loved it!

Sorry, I'm a little "off the back", but I love this! I want to put it around a frame for a picture of Rainier or something!
