Calvin Borel, who won the Derby this year on Street Sense is riding in 3 races tonight at Mountaineer Park! He'll also be signing autographs earlier in the evening. I'm going down tonight, and I'm really excited. This will be better than meeting a rockstar! I'm taking my camera, too, and may ask for a pic with him if it seems appropriate...

Yep, the track is paying him 20k just to come out and ride. Big publicity stunt!
Have fun though, it's going to be super busy out there today. There are always lots of people there for the big races to watch the simulcast.

Wow! 20K? It wasn't as crowded as I expected. We were even able to get a table in the clubhouse for dinner before the races without having a reservation. I got a free autographed ball cap and photo of Calvin riding Street Sense. He was really nice, and posed for a great pic with my 12 year old horse loving cousin. I thought it was cool, but then again I'm a big nerd...  |

What a great marketing stunt...I'm surprised it only cost them $20K. I think it's fun you got an autograph and posed for pictures! Do we get to see it? |

I think $20K is a pretty good amount of money for signing autographs for 45 minutes. He was going to be at Mountaineer anyway. He actually rode there last year in the same race, but he wasn't as famous then... He only posed with my cousin and the pic is on my phone. My MIL says I can send it to my email, but I seem to be technologically challenged...If I can get it to my computer, I definitely put it up. |
