Husband and I went to the Del Mar Races last night and in the 8th race, a horse named Raptora came in 2nd but something happened right after the finish line. I think Raptora must have stumbled and went down - the Jockey limped off the track but the horse remained on the ground for some time - when she got up she just stood there. They pulled out some huge screen to block the horse when they loaded her in the trailer.
Just wondering if there is anywhere I can find out about what happaned and if the horse is OK.
I know, curiosity gets to me - I hate seeing a horse go down and I am hoping that she is OK!!
Edited to add that the online pedigree query has this note:
Owner: Eric Swain State Bred: FL
broke down after wire in 8th race at Del Mar.

As sorry as I am to say it.........in my experience on the track; when they pull out the curtain to block view of the horse that usually means that they had to euthanize the horse. sorry

I am so sorry to hear that as well. Put a damper on our good time at the races That 2 y/o sure ran her heart out in that race. It is so sad that good things can lead to such bad endings.

Yep, more than likely the horse was put down in the trailer. Otherwise they would have to use a winch to put her on after putting her down. Pretty sad......
