I kind of wish they would retire him to a good home. He is 11 years old now. Is there an age limit in racing? I hope he gets through the race safely.

Most tracks do have age limits. I remember when I was at Laurel it was 13...which was typically unheard of. Mountaineer is a little different. If I remember correctly, after age 10, they have to win at least one race a year to be allowed to continue running.
They also have a rule for any age that says if your horse does not hit the board (1st through 4th) at the bottom level (5k) in 8 consecutive races, it's not eligable to run there anymore. That was someone can't keep pounding on a horse that just plain doens't want to run.
I had a feeling that they would bring Boy back. I'd put money on him too. He alway ran well after a rest. He's been lay-ed as long as Toby has.

I see that the handicappers agree with you. I just checked on Youbet.com and he is the favorite at 9/5

Boy ran poorly. He led for a while and then looked like he went sore. My BF said they should NEVER have worked him four days out. Poor guy. I'm going to ask about him again on monday when Good Day runs (if I see the trainer). Does anyone think they might be interested in Boy if I could get the trainer to agree to come to me first when he retires him? I know it's a longshot, but I'd love to go in armed with, "Well, I have x number of retirement homes ready to take him right now...."

I wish I could take him, Jen, but with the babies here we are full. He is such a handsome boy. I hope you are able to convince his new owners to let you find him a good home. I think he has more than earned it.

Yep, We had him for a while. He was claimed from us so we claimed him back a few months later. Then he was claimed again. He's 11 years old this year. He's made almost 500k and has won some stakes races. A tough old man who deserves only the best!

WOW!! That is a very impressive career. Did the current owners mention anything about retirement yet? I'm sure someone on the board would be able to give him a good home. Any pics?

Well, when they first claimed him, I asked about his retirement. The trainer told me he was thinking of sending him "home" to his farm out west. He also told me that he had already had TRF out to see a few horses but he never mentioned if he wanted to go that route with him or not. I keep missing him when I'm at the track. Whenever I do see him. I'll ask again. I always pester him about Boy so he probably is avoiding me.

He really is a handsome boy!! How tall is he? Sounds like the trainer does have the best interest of his horses in mind. He has had an impressive race career. He looks so laid back.

Isn't he a classy looking TB! He looks well over 16 hands if you compare where his withers are in the win pic to the people standing near. I wish I had told hubby to build a 3 stall shedrow instead of a 2 stall. Then I'd drive up to Mountaineer and help Jen pester his owner into letting him come home with me.
