Oh Luci, No way would I ever go on a golden board and type that. no way, no sir, no how. hehehe I'm not brave enough for that.
Jenarby, Jazz is so gorgeous. Even looking like a lion in that 2nd pic, you can see she is happy, and very confident with herself. Is that her personality?

My thoughts are whatever makes the dog most comfortable is the BEST thing to do!
Jen: Your dog is absolutely adorable! What a pretty thing!!!

Personally, I'd rather see your dog shaved and comfortable, than suffering. Who cares what others say, right? If only all pet owners were as responsible as you. My neighbor breeds St. Bernards. Right now she has 17 dogs (adults and "teenage" pups) living in the fenced in pasture beside my house. I'm pretty sure those dogs would appreciate a good shave right now (or even a decdent brushing to remove the mats and burrs). They just look miserable in this heat and humidity we've been having.

I agree, do what makes your dog feel best! Who cares what everyone else says!
GM, Jazz is a happy girl! She's my "kid" and wants to be on my heels at all times.

Jazz is so cute! She looks like she's wearing those furry after ski boots in the pic from last year.
My clippers had a hard time getting through the springer's hair too. Soft, fine, and thick! Would be nice woven into yarn with wool.
My brother had a hat knitted with wool and Siberian Husky fur. Soft!!!

I was going to mention that Jenarby should post a photo of her girl in her summer "do"! I think you should make the dog comfortable - I don't really think the dog is too concerned about what everyone thinks. My Riley (who is a Schnauzer/Poodle cross - a "Schnoodle") gets shaved into a "puppy cut". Otherwise her hair will start turning into dreadlocks when it hits a certain length. She loves being nekkid and feels so good after a haircut. Several years ago, my then-boyfriend's sister would bring her enormous show-bred Irish Setter to visit - which would then immediately jump into the pool and not come out until they got ready to go home. He would leave about 8 lbs of red hair in the pool every time. And, if there was any way I could have snuck out with some clippers.... :smirky:

Well, my dog has a pitiful coat. I might shave it just because it's so wimpy! LOL! How about filling a kiddie pool for your pooches! Then you'd have happy, WET dogs all over the house!

LOL jenarby, how frickin' cute is your shaved doggie???
Luci - I don't think I could wear a dog hat, lol...
Speaking of shaved fuzzy animals...there is a neighborhood cat that is super fluffy (think persian, but fluffier) that is shaved with a lion cut each summer. He's so cute, he really does look like a tiny lion!!

I shave my border collie/spaniel mix several times a year--from early spring until fall. He is SO happy shaved. Once you take off that heavy coat, he has so much more energy. He says that it is nothing but an old wives' tale about the undercoat keeping him cooler. He has offered to donate his slightly used undercoat to anyone who wants to try out the theory. By spring, his coat has grown back in so nicely that one of our friends uses it to spin.
I cut his tail to about a 1 inch length to go with his shaved body. He looks very natural, not like a "shaved" dog at all. And happy, and cool and full of life. Linda

I have a long haired chihuahua that I shaved for the first time this year and she seems very happy but gets chilly in the air conditioned house now. I have also been shaving my GSD mix for about 3 seasons now and he is happier and I don't get dog hair all over everything! ;D

Shaving your Labrador retriever can cause permanent damage to their coat and also puts them at risk of getting skin burns or skin cancer. The Lab's coat has several functions and it acts as a protective barrier, keeping the sunrays, dirt, debris, and moisture away from your Lab's skin and undercoat.
