Registered QH gelding, 15 years old, roughly 14.2 hands (measured with one of those paper tape measures, not a hard stick measure).
Official color is brown; looks black. No other markings except a snip.
He is an Appendix. Temperament is between TB and QH. So he's like a boring TB or a hot QH, depending on what you are used to.
Healthy and sound, barefoot for the last five years. Easy keeper food-wise but needs a blanket and stall w/turnout in winter. Stands for farrier and vet. Sometimes scared of the vet but is manageable by me and I'm still sort of a newbie. I give him the hairy eyeball and he stands like a good boy.
Good ground manners, moves out of the way when you are cleaning the stall. Doesn't rush or act aggressive at feeding time. Ties and cross ties. Stands for mounting. Scared of water and spray bottles.
Bottom of the pecking order but is almost donkey-like in his ability to guard the pasture and all it's occupants.
I know he can jump at least 2 feet because he's jumped the downed fence before for one of his beloved walk-a-bouts. I would not recommend him for a jumping career, but an occasional pop over a fence won't hurt.
Bred to race. This horse has a motor. He is like a sports car and is nimble. He is out of shape, but can still gallop my hilly pastures at breakneck speeds. He scares the crap out of me when he does that, but he's never fallen yet. I guess you could say he's pretty surefooted. LOL
Would like to be ridden by a smaller person since he is a small boy. Likes his own person. Not a good lesson horse on a continuous basis unless it is only one person taking the lessons.
I can put people on him and he is good, but I can tell he's only doing it for me (he gets that "save me" look on his face-usually for just cause ).
He tolerates my ENDLESS mistakes very well. He's never tried to get me off, never bolted, doesn't go any faster than I ask him too. Always tries hard to figure out what I want and does his best for me.
Why am I trying to sell him?
I am not the rider for this horse. I never really have been. I like slow slow slow WP. A horse with little to no engine, a 'husband horse' if you will.
This horse would do wonderful with someone who can appreciate his spunkyness and athleticism. Someone who wants to get something accomplished with their riding. He's not a pocket pony, but he is serious about his job.
I can't put just anybody on him for a trail ride. He's sensitive and he needs someone who can actually ride, or who is learning to ride with an instructor, not just be a sack of potatoes.
I've been playing around with listing him for a while now. I would really like to find him his perfect rider. He deserves that.
