To the best home! I dropped his price way down and came to a deal with my good friend's hubby. This couple have always loved him and the hubby has ridden Jake several times, took him teampenning even. It has sometimes been difficult to get him off the horse even. I know he wanted a horse to go roping off and Jake has roped before he became a fancy schmancy english chick horse hehe. Which I don't think he ever really enjoyed BTW. So its the BEST outcome after a year of trying to sell him and a year of having too many horses. Can't believe I've had Jasper a year... he was my Valentines horse. So hopefully no more having to feel bad looking at him doing nothing much in his stall, more time to spend with my wonderful TBs, less money on hay and shoes... I never want to have to sell another horse, I'm just not cut out for it. Can you believe I turned down offers of $1000 more because I didn't think they were the right home? (Sorry CatB, sold your horsie )

Yea! A good home is the best home no matter the money! I hope that it goes through okay and that you are all as happy as you want each other to be THere are a lot of transactions (even horse sales) that happiness for any of the parties (horse included) don't matter. Here's hoping for a great outcome!!

I was so looking forward to meeting him during my visit in April. I've been busy ironing creases into my Wranglers, shining my spurs, and practicing my rope twirling. :brian: I'll be SO disappointed if he's gone!! But if it must be so, I'm glad he's going to a good home. Just keep me posted, so I'll know which riding attire to pack. heh heh!!

I had a lesson today, first in three weeks and Tucker was such a good little boy. He rounded, flexed, and stayed on the bit with much less effort from me than usual. Maybe that's the key, only ride him every 3 weeks! Now the bad part. I was three miles down the road, on my way home, when I realized I had left my $90.00 Miller bridle (which I had just swapped out with a brand NEW snaffle last night!!) sitting on the trailer hitch. By the time I turned around and backtracked, it was gone. I was just SICK!! Now the good part. When I got back to the house, my trainer called and she had found it on the highway - it hadn't even been run over! Now the BEST part. While I was looking for my bridle, I found a fairly NEW Troxel schooling helmet in the ditch!! I asked my trainer if anyone had lost one and she said not that she had heard. So, Shelby may have her very OWN helmet, as she usually uses mine! (Oh, I'll ask around a little - but too funny!) ;D

to your wonderful land where one finds $90 bridles and Troxel helmets on the road? ;D
I left my (Rita's) bridle at the barn, I've been there a few times but I always forget it. Hopefully it will still be hanging on the door tomorrow...
Claire congrats on finding Jake a good home! It must be quite heartwrenching to sell a horse that you really like...

I wasn't going to admit it, but I ALSO left my paddock boots sitting on my truck bumper, when I put on my muckers. They were STILL on the bumper when I stopped-WHEW!! But talk about a space cadet. It's a wonder I even remembered to load Tucker! Oh, and in reply to you getting tough and tossing ALL the poor darling daughters' bon bons (by the way, Shelby was half sick by the time she got home from the school Valentines party) - you know what the WORST thing is for teeth? POP, er I mean, SODA!! I don't buy the stuff for my kids, but my son worked part-time at a fast food restaurant, which meant full-time access to all the pop he could drink. Would you believe he had 7 cavities the next dentist visit?! And this for a kid that prior to that had only had 1 his whole childhood! Be warned!!;D

We almost never buy soda (except when our non-drinking friend comes to our house, we buy Coke for him!).
I am getting so paranoid I even eye fruit juice suspiciously. I'd rather have my kids eat real fruit than drink fruit juice. I was so pleased when my 10 yo daughter decided it was cool to bring a water bottle to school...but she quickly reverted to Fruit Jammer Pouches and other crap...
Oh well, I shouldn't complain, tonight they both ate the lentils-sausage dish without complaining too much, and they like salad...

Oh CatB I had to laugh, because I did the same thing twice in a row when I trailered out for a ride I left something on my trailer. The first time it was my favourite, perfect weight, just the right length schooling whip. The next time it was a pair of almost new SMBs. I always say they'll be one time I forget to load the horse!!!

...and what a complex thread! First: Good news for you Claire LV....sounds like Jake is going to the good life, where cowboys are cowboys and quarter horses go western! And CatB.... are you CHANNELING me? tee hee...leaving bridles, boots and bits on the trailer? Sheesh! That helmet in the ditch is pretty wild. I NEVER find helmets in the ditch! Now...Niaru? I'm not sure that sugar or juice or pop makes cavities. My husband has NEVER HAD a single cavity is his good-fer-nothin' head... and yet he eats crap all day and never sees the dentist. My kids are divided - two have no cavities, one has 'em. They eat the same crap too. I think its all about hard enamel and stuff. Also, have you had sealants put on the girlies teeth? Those work pretty good... My kids have them all around - Work until they get all their permanent teeth.

Fingers crossed and congrats on selling Jake! Oh yes a good home is great! If I was the seller, I would rather know that they were in a good home.

Claire, a good home is always important. I've known friends to up their price for a horse they were selling based on NOT wanting to sell the horse to someone. I'm with you, I can't sell them, get way to attached. CatB, good news on your trainer finding your bridle. I've done that once, left the bridle on the side of the trailer after it got dark. Didn't see it and will never see it again. It was a couple of days before I realized it was missing. That was my favorite hackamore too. Sigh. As for the Troxel helmet along the road, I'd examine it well for damage that may not be visible. If you feel any dimples in it, it will protect, but not as well as it should should that be the spot that hits the ground first. Hope it's fine, cause that would be all right!

Well, ClaireLV... I hope some of that horse selling luck rubs off on me.. I really need to find a home for Baraq...
CatB... speaking of losing and finding things... remember that itty bitty camera I had when we went riding? I lost it.. well, last week when I was at the lake with the horses and another friend, I looked at the wheelwell of the trailer and there was the camera! It was so full of road dust, that none of the moving parts would move... but I got the film out and there actually were some pictures on it! Only one of you, the rest were pictures my grandson took in our back yard!

Chris - That is simply amazing it was still in one piece! That was way back in October (November?). Too funny. I think the worst thing I every forgot was to close the tack compartment of my trailer. It was a small miracle all my tack and stuff didn't blow/fall out! Zen - the helmet seems to be intact. It almost look like it was carried off by a dog. There were gnaw marks in the styrofoam edge. ;D S.May - good teeth genes must run in your family! Have any of your kids needed braces? We have two down, and no doubt one more to go!
